Your first cycling trip: How to start relaxed

"Your first cycling trip doesn't have to be big, extreme, or perfect. It can start small. That's often where the magic lies: you get on your bike, start riding, and realize after just a few kilometers that traveling doesn't have to be complicated."

To begin with, a route that feels comfortable is sufficient. Plan for two or three days rather than two weeks. Choose stages that allow time for breaks, photos, coffee, and small detours. Many beginners start with 40 to 60 kilometers per day. If there's elevation gain or you're carrying a lot of luggage, you can cover significantly less.

It's important to test your bike before your trip. Take a longer ride with luggage. This way you'll quickly notice if the saddle fits, if the bags are secure, and if you've forgotten anything. This test ride is often more valuable than hours of planning.

Pack light. Clothing for all weather conditions, a rain jacket, tools, a spare inner tube, a light, a charger, a water bottle, and some food are often enough to start with. Many things you pack out of fear, you'll never need on the road.

My tip: Plan your first cycling trip so that it can be a success. It's not about the longest distance, but about leaving you thinking: I want to do this again!

"Make it happen."
